"Nut Remix is a contemporary reimagining of Tchaikovsky’s classic Nutcracker Suite, set on Memphis’s Beale Street, but there’s a wide world of dance and music in the show from classical ballet to hip-hop, flamenco to traditional African dance, and more. The Memphis Symphony Orchestra plays selections from Tchaikovsky’s original score plus orchestrations written for Nut Remix, and the Memphis Symphony Big Band contributes arrangements from Duke Ellington’s jazz take on the Nutcracker. There’s live flamenco, African drumming, even some Booker T & The MG’s! Since 2003, New Ballet Ensemble & School has offered professional-level dance instruction to Mid-South students regardless of the ability to pay. The Ensemble mounts several major productions annually in Memphis, performs and teaches in area schools, and has hit the road to perform in New York and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. New Ballet is nationally recognized as a leader in Creative Youth Development, and was honored with the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award in 2014."

"When a tornado watch is issued one Tuesday evening in June, twelve-year-old Dan Hatch and his best friend, Arthur, don't think much of it. After all, tornado warnings are a way of life during the summer in Grand Island, Nebraska. But soon enough, the wind begins to howl, and the lights and telephone stop working. Then the emergency siren starts to wail. Dan, his baby brother, and Arthur have only seconds to get to the basement before the monstrous twister is on top of them. Little do they know that even if they do survive the storm, their ordeal will have only just begun. . ."
